Filmy Aces is very excited to interview the wonderful Darcy Donovan for an exclusive interview!!
Filmy Aces: How long have you been in entertainment and acting? Please tell us a little bit about your previous experience in Cinema so far? Where did the journey start and what has been your experience so far?
Darcy: I’ve been in music and television since I was a little girl. I first started out doing a commercial where I beat out over 1,000 kids for the role. Not only did I have to memorize my own lines, but I memorized the long set of lines of my older co-star. It was funny because he would forget his lines and I would end up feeding him his lines in between my own takes. LOL! I was always singing in the church choir and in drama since I was young kid. I did several television shows and commercials growing up, and I was in several bands. I won battle of the bands and released several songs in my youth. From there, I have continued to build and build upon my career.
Filmy Aces: How do you define the role of an actress?
Darcy: Hmm. That’s an interesting question. I am not sure there is an “exact” way to define the role of an actress. As a career path, some see it as just a job, but I genuinely enjoy every moment of it. Being an entertainer is something that I born with and acting is something that I have always had a passion for. I will say that I think the role of an actress has grown dramatically throughout the history of film. Currently, roles for women have not only increased, but also become more complex and in-depth. Many current shows highlight the struggles of what women go through in their day to day lives. The depth of female character has grown in action, suspense and horror. In the past, in many old films you see, female characters were created to be beautiful, but lacked substance and only scratched the surface of who they were. Nowadays, most female characters show deeper emotions that we all go through in life; including joy, heartache, passion, fear and love. It’s a great time in history to be an actress and to be able to show your abilities in many diverse ways.
Filmy Aces: Please tell us about some of the movies you’ve worked on so far to date? And what have you enjoyed about them? Incl short films or TV?
Darcy: Since moving to Los Angeles, I have been on many hit television shows and movies. I had a role in “ANCHORMAN” and “BREAK POINT” as well as several roles in television shows including “PARKS AND RECREATION“, “The Carrie Diaries” , “90210“,”BONES“, “ENTOURAGE” and “MY NAME IS EARL” to name a few. Whether it has been television shows, commercials, or film, everybody I have worked with so far, has been amazing. It has been a wonderful adventure for me and I have enjoyed every single project that I have been a part of. I have been very lucky to be able to work with many great casts and crews. I recently completed a guest-starring role on the NBC comedy “Parks and Recreation” with Chris Pratt who did “GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY” and is coming out with “Jurassic Park World”. I gotta say he was such a sweetheart to work with and it was such a pleasure to work on that project with him.
Filmy Aces: What is your dream role in cinema? If you could enact one role from any movie in Cinema History, what part would you love to play?
Darcy: If we were talking about an action role, there are a couple of characters I would want to play. “Wonder Woman” is a character I’ve always wanted to play as a little girl and seeing how DC comics and Marvel have brought the whole super hero genre to life in cinema once again, I would love to play her. I’d also enjoy playing a “Tomb Raider” style action role. YEAH! Lastly, I would love star in some more deep meaningful roles in drama to show my versatility, as well as continuing on with comedies that I enjoy so very much.
Filmy Aces: Who are some of your favorite actresses of all time and why?
Darcy: You are going to find this funny, but two of my favorite actresses of all time are Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie. Angelina Jolie was absolutely incredible in “GIA“, and her recent directorial debut in the film “UNBROKEN” speaks volumes for her talent. Jennifer Aniston is an all around classy actress and amazing in comedy, but she also just showed the depth of her ability with her amazing dramatic role in “Cake”. To see how she wasn’t pulled in for the Oscars really made me sad, since I think she really stepped up and showed compelling versatility in her acting. I also really respect Meryl Streep and Diane Keaton and the great things they have accomplished in their careers; being able to touch on the dramatic roles, as well as musical roles and comedies. I just love their work. I could go on and on with a list of other actresses that I love, adore and really respect, but the ones listed above are by far some of my favorites.
Filmy Aces: Who are some of you favorite actors of all time and why?
Darcy: I am a little biased on that LOL! LOL! I choose Chris Pratt since I worked with him and saw what an amazing person and really great actor that he is. He really works hard. I felt bad for him since I could tell that he was just running himself ragged on the set. His dedication to what he does is really admirable. I also loved working with Will Ferrell, Will is absolutely hilarious. I have enjoyed working with Robert De Niro and admire him alot. I do love Steve Martin, AlPacino, Sidney Poitier, and James Earl Jones to name a few more.
Filmy Aces: What are some of your favorite films of all time?
Darcy: I really love inspirational films that are based on true stories. Some of my favorite films of all time are “REMEMBER THE TITANS“, “GOAL” and “THE BLIND SIDE” which I loved. People often tell me that Sandra Bullock’s character in that film reminds them of me in real life. I absolutely loved the movie “Unbroken” as well. In terms of fiction, I enjoyed the new “PLANET OF THE APES” and “Lord of the Rings” epic movies, and when I was a little kid, my mom let me watch “VALLEY GIRL” with Nicolas Cageand I never forgot it. LOL! Oh and lets not forget “Anchorman” for obvious reasons;) (lol) (since I was in it;)
Filmy Aces: Who is the one director you have the most respect for?
Darcy: Wow! That’s a hard one to tell you since I have worked with some great directors in my time. I have to say that I really enjoyed working with Adam McKay on “Anchorman” because he is such a wonderful, laid back director. I also loved working with Don Scardino on a television pilot I did for Amazon studios. He was such a sweetheart. Don and Adam are some of the nicest people you could know. I don’t want to only name just them since I have worked with many other amazing directors, but they stood out a lot. I have been a part of many other great projects that have been fabulous to work on as well.
Filmy Aces: What has been your acting experience so far?
Darcy: You’re going to have to go on my IMDB and look, To talk about each experience would take up another 5 pages. LOL! I have worked on a lot of different television shows and films.:)
Filmy Aces: What would you like to achieve in cinema over the next 10 years? What is your overall career objective?
Darcy: Well, I have a goal list for my career, so it’s funny that you mentioned “the next ten years.” In the next 10 years, my goal is to be on a hit television series that I have helped produce. I have several screenplays and television scripts that I am in the process of creating that I would like to see brought into fruition as well. Pulling together a team of people to work on those and help bring them to life is definitely one of my career goals. I would love to be not only in front of the camera, but behind the camera directing as well. Watching how actresses like Angeline Jolie have been able to step behind the camera and direct such amazing films such as “UNBROKEN” is really opening up a lot of doors for actresses like myself and others in the business to be able to do the same and tell some amazing stories.
Filmy Aces: Do you watch movies from other parts of the world aside from Hollywood Cinema like Bollywood, Hong Kong, Korean, Australia and New Zealand Cinema? Which ones are your favorites and why?
Darcy: It’s funny you ask that. My assistant is a huge fan of Korean soap operas. LOL! She comes in and tells me all about them to where I actually went on and started watching a few. I really liked “You are Beautiful” (It’s on Netflix.) LOL! We also did a Bollywood scene in a movie that I was in recently and it was A LOT of fun.
Filmy Aces: Who is the dream director you’d like to work with one day?
Darcy: I would love to work with Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino. Their bodies of work are just brilliant and I have the utmost respect for everything that they have done and how they’ve really shaped Hollywood and the film industry.:):). Thank you so much Prashant H. Hari for your fabulous questions! :):):) Also, thank you to all the amazing readers and to my wonderfully amazing fans that are with me on my journey!
